World Food Day 2026 | Workshop “Food Waste Management”

World Food Day 2026 | Workshop “Food Waste Management”
On the occasion of World Food Day, more October 16, 2026, Food Bank Albania in collaboration with the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food, Agricultural University of Tirana (UBT), organizes the Workshop:
“Food Waste Management – Social, Economic and Ecological Value & Food Bank Practices”
The activity takes place in the spirit of the message of World Food Day 2026, an initiative of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization):
“Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” – “We innovate today. We nourish tomorrow.”
At a time when ensuring sufficient, diverse, safe and nutritious food for all must go hand in hand with protecting the planet's resources, solutions are needed that combine innovation, traditional knowledge, social responsibility and inclusive approaches.
The workshop will bring together representatives of universities, public institutions, entrepreneurship, civil society and organizations engaged in the food system, to discuss an issue of particular importance: How can we transform food waste from waste to value?
The focus of the activity will be the management and reduction of food surpluses, their social, economic and environmental impact, as well as the role of food banks in food recovery and redistribution towards communities in need. Experience and practices of Food Bank Albania, as part of the European Food Banks Federation (FEBA), will serve as a concrete example of the connection between food loss reduction, solidarity and sustainability.
The activity also aims to promote dialogue and cooperation between academia, public sector, business and civil society, promoting a more responsible, inclusive and sustainable food system.
