Food Bank Albania

Who are we?

The Food Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against food waste in Albania.

The organization has been operating in Albania since 2013 and is a full member of the Federation of European Food Banks (FEBA) – the largest network of food banks in Europe. This membership not only ensures the integration of FBA into the most advanced European policies and practices for food waste management and humanitarian aid, but also gives the organization the opportunity to participate in international campaigns, exchange expertise and benefits of a technical and strategic nature.

We believe that our goals can be achieved through solidarity and by raising awareness in Albanian society regarding poverty and food surpluses.

Purpose and Vision

What do we do?

Poverty reduction and the elimination of food waste are the two main goals of the organization.

In fact, we hope that by redirecting surplus food to the neediest members of society, we can address both challenges simultaneously. By giving surplus food to families in need, we can reduce the environmental costs of wasted food and help families in need.

To address food waste, we work with businesses, institutions, and individuals to collect food donations and raise awareness about food waste.

To address poverty, we provide the collected food to organizations or state social services involved in the fight against poverty.

Our vision is to see the end of hunger in Albania and to maximally reduce food surpluses so that we have healthy people and a clean environment.

Our mission as an anti-poverty organization is to combat food waste by carefully and efficiently collecting nutritious foods that might otherwise go unused and redistributing them to people in need through a network of partners.

We believe that we can work together to eradicate hunger in Albania by fighting poverty and striving for a cleaner environment. We encourage employment as a way for people to live with dignity and have a better future.

Contribution and Objectives

Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

Through its daily work, Food Bank Albania plays an important role in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Albania.

Food Bank Albania (FBA) has been positioned since its creation specifically to address SDG 2, Zero Hunger and SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, specifically Target 12.3, which calls for halving per capita food waste globally at the retail and consumer levels and reducing food losses along production and supply chains.

Food Bank Albania is a clear example of local action with global impact, which proves that even a national organization can sustainably contribute to a more just, equal and green future for all.
